Episode 015: Reoccurent Loss and the Decision to Keep Going with Kaity B
Kaity shares her walk through infertility and how advocating for herself finally gained her a diagnosis. Not only did she have to advocate to get the right testing, she had to do all of this in the midst of COVID - resulting in clinic closures.
Kaity starts her path to motherhood with medicated cycles. After what she thought was a failed cycle, her baseline blood work showed she was pregnant. Unfortunately, this first pregnancy resulted in miscarriage. After her miscarriage, she had to re-do all her bloodwork and diagnostic exams since she was technically pregnant the first round. The HSG showed that she had one blocked fallopian tube. She goes on to do several additional rounds of medicated cycles while experiencing more pregnancy loss.
Kaity and her husband decided to switch gears and ramp up for their first IVF cycle. During this “holding time”, they decided to focus on their diet and lifestyle. After some diet changes, Kaity finds herself pregnant one more time. Again, she finds out her beta is dropping. She goes over a month of rising and falling betas so her providers determine to treat it as an ectopic pregnancy. Kaity speaks on the use of methotrexate and how it caused another delay in starting IVF.
During her IVF work up, now years after they started trying, she is diagnosed with hydrosalpinx. She finally felt like she had some answers to her chemical and ectopic pregnancies. In February 2022, she had one of her tubes removed. Today, Kaity is gearing up for her first egg retrieval!
