Episode 029: Egg Donation with Kelly Herrick

  • Kelly started trying when she first got married at age 35, 6 months went by and then she started on clomid to increase her chances of pregnancy with timed intercourse.

  • After a few tries without success, they found she had some polyps and then switched over to an RE to start trying with IUI’s

  • Started a support group in Santa Barbara in 2018

  • Hysteroscopy to get rid of more polyps - then decided to switch to IVF

  • AMH 1.0- almost 37 years old

  • First round of IVF - 6 eggs retrieved, 1 healthy normal embryo

  • Transferred August 2019 -success- then found out it was a chemical pregnancy

  • Decided to go right into another round of IVF- 2 days before retrieval the follicles had withered. Doctors recommended to convert it to IUI

  • She said “she knew that she needed more chances then what her body could give”. When they decided to go the route of egg donor

  • They decided they wanted a full fresh cycle*

    • Egg donor Agency focuses on travel for these women, receive a stipend, travel fees paid, etc.

    • Was seeking someone that was studious like herself and type A

    • Picked her egg donor in early October and flew out in December

  • Wanted to test the embryos and wanted to pick the gender prior to transfer (girl)

  • Retrieved 30 eggs from the egg donor

  • Met with egg donor in the recovery room, and was able to get coffee with her and get to know each other more

  • 12 blasts, sent 10 off for PGS testing, 5 normal embryos

  • Kelly transferred right after PGS testing came back - end of January

  • SUCCESS! SHE IS PREGNANT!!! - Pregnant with her baby girl

  • Daughter was born October 2020

  • Kelly reached out to the other couple in Australia who the egg donor donated to as well and now has an open relationship with them.
